Sea inspired works
Archive
Many of my past collections have been inspired by the sea. I use the shapes and forms of shells that I collect off the beach in England and Thailand. It is so interesting to compare shells from Hastings beach which are heavy and opaque with the tropical ones of Thailand that are delicate with beautiful lustres and patterns. Beachcombing although a completely different experience, can turn up items of remarkable similarity. It seems that wherever or whoever we are, we discard the same things
Recycling is very important to me and I would never buy anything new unless there is no other source, corals should never be purchased new, I always use vintage. I buy discarded copper hot water tanks for my source of copper.
I would consider my work to be raw and imperfect giving the wearer a more interesting visual experience. My enamelling has a free and painterly quality, rather than the controlled and pristine historical enamel more commonly seen.
